Diffusée à partir de ce soir sur Canal+, Pushing Daisies avait enthousiasmé la critique lors de sa première diffusion à la rentrée 2007 sur ABC. Elle vient pourtant d'être annulée au terme de sa deuxième saison, faute d'audience suffisante. Cette fable poétique sur la mort et l'amour impossible, thèmes traités avec légerèté, présente des qualités indéniables mais lasse après quelques épisodes.

Ned possède un don encombrant, le pouvoir de ressusciter les morts par un simple contact. Le revers de la médaille étant que s'il les touche une deuxième fois, il les renvoie pour de bon dans l'au-delà. Si en revanche il décide de les garder en vie, d'autres mourront à leur place, pour rétablir une sorte d'équilibre cosmique. Forcément peu enclin au contact physique, Ned retrouve son amour d'enfance, décédée, qu'il ramène à la vie sans pouvoir se décider à la renvoyer chez les morts. Quelqu'un d'autre meurt donc à sa place, Ned se retrouve face à la seule fille qu'il ait jamais eu envie de toucher - et il ne pourra bien sûr jamais le faire sous peine de la tuer instantanément.

Au croisement d'Amélie Poulain et de certains films de Tim Burton, Pushing Daisies a le mérite de détonner dans l'univers télévisuel. Mais, obsédée par ses modèles, elle mise tout sur sa forme et son esthétique - réussies - qu'on n'a déjà trop vues au cinéma. Jean-Pierre Jeunet est passé par là. Les enquêtes menées par les personnages principaux - Ned est associé à un détective privé qui exploite son don pour enquêter sur des meurtres - ne sont pas haletantes et la série, fraîche et sympathique, ne tient pas la longueur pour autant.

En fait, elle n'a pas été annulée au terme de la deuxième saison (ça aurait été en mai 2009) mais en fin de semaine dernière.
Et effectivement, si la série est bien plaisante au début, elle devient rapidement lassante, et la tentative de rajouter des cliffhangers en fin de première saison (je sais pas pour la deuxième, j'ai pas regardé) est très artificielle et n'a rien fait pour améliorer le truc.

Elle ne m'a jamais lassée cette série. Esthétiquement merveilleuse, toujours capable de trouver des intrigues policiéres originales, légère et sucrée, cynique et teinté d'un humour noir admirable.
